Garden Party in White and Green
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you may have seen my color series featuring white flowers and foliage. While I appreciate the many color combinations mother nature affords us, there are few I find as elegant, soothing, and approachable as white and green. In keeping with that theme, I’m dreaming up a June dinner party in the garden with lots of crisp white and green elements. Here are my picks for how to get the look. Container Gardens
Be sure to punctuate your outdoor entertaining area with lush container gardens. These can define the space, fill an empty corner, or simply welcome your guests. Create a cohesive look by using the same color scheme in your planters that you’ll use in your tablescape.
Furniture
Seat your guests in comfy, woven chairs draped with soft cotton throws — there’s something relaxed and inviting about the layers and they’ll come in handy if you’re fortunate enough to have a slight chill in the air as the sun sets. Choose a chic, scalloped umbrella in rich green and white to shield the party from the sun and create a sense of place in the garden. I’ve seen lots of spectacular updates to the typical market umbrella, incorporating multiple tiers, cutouts, fringe, and contrasting piping. They’re available at several mainstream retailers including The Home Depot and Target. It’s a great time to shop for a new umbrella!
Tablescape
Build your table settings from the bottom up, starting with a woven charger to continue the natural feel of the setting. Top that with a crisp white dinner plate and a salad plate in a green cabbage motif. You can find lovely, affordable options inspired by the original Majolica Cabbage Ware, so you don’t have to make a big investment to achieve this look. Frame the table setting with elegant linen napkins in a fun pattern and unexpected flatware with bone or creamy white handles. Serve guests a refreshing white wine or sparkling lemonade, kept cold in a marble bottle chiller and sipped from clear stemware. To bring a touch of live greenery to the table, nestle a wispy Maidenhair fern in a terra cotta pot or add white flowers to a sweet vase.
Now that you’ve created the scene, simply add a light menu and your favorite guests. Bon appetit!
XO,
Steph
